Filing taxes can feel daunting, especially when you don’t have the funds to hire an accountant. But did you know that you can file your taxes for free?
The IRS Free File program is an invaluable resource. The program allows taxpayers to prepare and file their federal income tax returns for free. Although more than 100 million people, or 70% of taxpayers, qualify for the program, only about 2% of eligible Americans actually use it.
This program provides two ways for taxpayers to prepare and file their federal income taxes online for free. If you choose Guided Tax Preparation, you will be able to view all the IRS partners available, from TaxSlayer and TaxAct or FileYourTaxes.com. After selecting an option, you’ll need to create a new account or log in to an existing one.
Note that if you complete your tax preparation and your 2022 AGI exceeds $73,000, you will not be able to e-file your federal taxes for free.
