“We make you cry in Act 1,” says Pelman. “Then we lift you up in Act 2, and by the end you’ll be dancing in the aisles.”, Pelman is in the midst of technical rehearsals for the show. Onstage, Adrienne Warren is running through a complicated piece of choreography in which a young Turner gets ready for a night on the town in St. Louis. It’s a sequence that finds her jumping off a bed while performing a quick change into evening wear.
