. With a deft hand, Chan is helping to shape the future of food. “It’s all about relationships,” the Taiwanese-born Californian says of her rise to the top of this thriving culinary scene. “In this digital age, it’s the one last thing you can’t download.”
It’s an ethos that extends to her wardrobe, too: “I hate online shopping because I need to put it on, touch the fabric, and be in it to know that it works for my body and the rest of my closet.” The Barnard graduate, who got her start working under David Chang at Momofuku, says her “IRL” preference has made her a regular at boutiques like Opening Ceremony in Soho and Maryam Nassir Zadeh on the Lower East Side. But it was only recently that Chan “hit her fashion stride,” she notes.
