Beyond that, no names have surfaced as potential targets. Part of that likely stems from the fact that the Pirates are now only on the fringe of the pennant race. Thus, they could wind up looking to trade away veterans if they don’t start winning again very soon. The Pirates almost certainly won’t make a splash move like last July 31 when they acquired right-hander Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-hander Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Austin Meadows and pitching prospect Shane Baz.Archer is 3-6 with a 5.36 ERA in 17 starts for the Pirates this season. Meanwhile, Meadows was selected to the All-Star Game and is hitting .293 with 15 home runs and nine stolen bases in 80 games while Glasnow was 6-1 with a 1.
If the Pirates decide to trade veterans, left fielder Corey Dickerson would be at the top of the list as he is eligible for free agency at the end of the season and there are no plans to re-sign him. Right-hander Jordan Lyles and switch-hitting outfield Melky Cabrera and left-handed reliever Francisco Liriano will also be available.
