While the plane at which Skenes' fastball approaches the plate slightly suggests he should throw his fastball in the top of the strike zone, his standout velocity further pushes him in that direction because he can get a lot of whiffs and popups in that part of the zone, a fair trade for some long fly balls. That said, though the pitch is versatile enough to also use effectively low in the zone.
