Nebraska ’s Republican governor is considering calling a special legislative session to take another crack at changing the unique way the state casts its Electoral College votes amid pressure from former President Donald Trump and his allies.
Nebraska is one of only two states that do not have a winner-take-all system for its votes, with Maine being the only other. In Nebraska, two electoral votes are casted based on statewide results and three others are doled out based on results from its three congressional districts. “We are going to keep on pushing and keep on pushing and keep on pushing until Nebraska gets winner-take-all,” conservative activist Charlie Kirk said at a rally Tuesday alongside state Republicans. “Nebraska could pick a president.”
In 2020, the unique way Maine and Nebraska divide their electoral votes did not make a difference because Biden had secured enough in other states. But the November election is expected to be another that isand it would only take a few states flipping for the singular electoral votes to make a big difference.
