Auburn is one of many Power 5 programs shelling out a good bit of money to a non-Power 5 opponent this fall.
Whether it’s a win, lose or draw for UMass when they play Auburn Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the visiting Minutemen will be leaving The Plains with deeper pockets than what they arrived with.
UMass, which is an independent FBS program and therefore doesn’t reap the financial benefits of conference affiliations, will make $1.6 million for its visit to Penn State on Oct. 14. Meanwhile, Auburn will once again open its checkbook in November when it sends New Mexico State home with $1.85 million after the two programs meet at Jordan-Hare on Nov. 18.
