Now that the official trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two has dropped, fans are getting their first look at the expanded cast for the highly-anticipated Dune sequel, including Florence Pugh's Dune 2 character, Princess Irulan, who seems to be an integral part of Paul Atreides' next adventure.
Who Is Princess Irulan? Florence Pugh's Dune 2 Character Backstory Explained Princess Irulan is the eldest of the five daughters of Shaddam IV, the 81st Padishah Emperor , and Anirul, a member of the highly secretive Bene Gesserit. She doesn't appear until the end of Herbert's Dune, and is a pawn in a much larger machination, raised from birth to have very little agency in her own life and trained in the ways of the Bene Gesserit to one day be a Reverend Mother.
Though Paul is devoted to Chani, Irulan's mark on his story chronicling the Moah'Dib is still monumental. As she feels the pressure to play a role she never had any choice in slowly slip away, she finally comes to terms with her position in House Atreides, and honors Paul's journey even though they have their many differences by writing an account of his deeds on Arrakis.
How Much Will Florence Pugh Be In Dune 2? Considering the Dune 2 timeline now focuses on the latter half of Herbert's first novel, Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan can be expected to be in it a fair amount. Though she seems to be providing more narration than participating in any of the action she's describing, that will change if she's presented to Paul as his future bride.
