I started as a contractor, and I've steadily moved up the ladder. I now earn a salary of $163,00 plus a $40,000 bonus and another $25,000 in deferred stock that I'm eligible to cash in in three years.
I'm never going to be a millionaire. But I think I'm well-compensated and that I make a fair wage for the kind of work I do. At this point in my life — my 30s — I was trying to buy a forever home, and my wife and I were starting a family. Unless you get promoted, or you get another offer to use as leverage, you're only going to get small percentage increases every year. I was so excited to be hired that I was nervous to ask for more. I didn't want to blow it. But I did and it worked out.My company is very big on pay transparency. I don't know exactly what other people make, but I know that based on my"band," I make about 90-100% of what others at my level earn. If anything, maybe I'm a little underpaid.
