Grey's Anatomy has been airing since it first premiered in 2005, and while it has a devoted fanbase, it's no longer receiving major award attention.

Grey’s Anatomy was recently renewed for a season 20, and while it remains popular, it’s been over a decade since it received any attention from major awards bodies. Grey’s Anatomy premiered in 2005 and was an instant hit for ABC. Now, it’s the network’s longest-scripted primetime television series, but it is no longer considered a critical success in the way it once was in its early days.

Many Of Grey’s Anatomy’s Nominees Are Gone There are four actresses who have won major awards for their performances on Grey’s Anatomy – Sandra Oh , Katherine Heigl , Chandra Wilson , and Devine. Other actors, like T.R. Knight , Patrick Dempsey , Ellen Pompeo , have received individual nominations as well, and in 2006, the Grey’s Anatomy cast won Outstanding Cast – Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. However, outside of Wilson, all of these nominees have now left the series.

Grey’s Anatomy had tons of famous guest actors in its earlier seasons who gave memorable performances from Sarah Paulson as Young Ellis to Demi Lovato as a teenager initially diagnosed with schizophrenia, but there have been fewer of these occurrences in the later seasons. This has greatly taken away the opportunity for Grey’s Anatomy to earn more nominations in the guest actor categories at the Emmys.

Nowadays, medical procedurals like Grey’s Anatomy are considered a dime a dozen, with other series like the Chicago franchise, The Good Doctor, The Resident, and New Amsterdam oversaturating the market. The same can be said for police procedurals, legal procedurals, and more. While Grey’s Anatomy began in an era where procedurals were respected and critically acclaimed, it has continued through an era where that is not the case, which helps explain the lack of nominations in its later seasons.
