It illuminated the comedic core of Chekhov’s play in a way that I had never seen before,” said Cullman who has directed several of Feiffer’s plays. “People always treat Chekhov a little bit seriously, but this was just ribald, insane, crazy town and had fearless, fearless, fearless actors doing it.

They are able to switch very quickly between utter despair, extreme joy, and then get distracted by some very banal thing, like a meal,” says Tavi Gevinson, who plays Irina.
The dream team cast features Ako, Steven Boyer, Gevinson, Sas Goldberg, Rebecca Henderson, Greg Hildreth, Matthew Jeffers, Gene Jones, Alfredo Narciso, Chris Perfetti, Ryan Spahn, and Ray Anthony Thomas. The play is presented by MCC Theater, one of New York’s great nonprofit Off-Broadway companies which is known for inspiring conversation. “MCC takes a lot of risks and is experimental,” says Sas Goldberg who plays spicy and fearless Natasha.
Similar to that high school Three Sisters production which Feiffer did with many of her friends, she wrote many parts in this piece for her friends. “Even though this is a very dark play about a very broken community, I associate it with community,” she shares. “These characters obviously really love each other. They just don't know how to express it.”Another element that attracted Feiffer to reimagining Three Sisters was its bleak humor.
