In the midst of not having a home, feeling like you're not important becomes normal. That's why The Birthday Joy Program have become a highlight for kids at shelters
HOUSTON — When leaving violent situations at home, milestones like birthdays are often put on the back burner.
“There are not a lot of programs dedicated to celebrating a kid on their birthday,” said executive director Kim Jackson. “Having someone in the community come in and help your kid celebrate their birthday – that’s a load lifted off their shoulders.”
