Guerilla Games devs went into detail about the God Of War Easter Eggs in Horizon Forbidden West and explain why they were included in the first place.
The developers behind Horizon Forbidden West revealed the reason why they placed hidden references to 2018’s God Of War inside their latest futuristic open-world adventure. The world of Horizon Forbidden West is vast and filled with many different sights and secrets for players to discover as they guide Aloy on her quest to restore the world by gathering the lost fragments of the terraforming AI GAIA.
One hidden secret that players likely didn’t expect to find while exploring Horizon Forbidden West’s impressively large game world was a reference to the critically-acclaimed God Of War reboot by Sony Santa Monica, but sure enough, Aloy can discover totems patterned after Kratos, Atreus, Brok, and Sindri scattered around the titular Forbidden West.
Just as Aloy returned to the gaming world in Horizon Forbidden West, Kratos and his son Atreus will embark on a whole new adventure in God Of War: Ragnarök, which is still marked to release sometime later this year despite some fans suspecting that it will be delayed into 2023.
Horizon Forbidden West’s God Of War Easter Eggs were a fitting tribute to the critically-acclaimed relaunch of one of PlayStation’s flagship first-party franchises, and hearing the story of how Guerilla Games decided to insert them into its own open-world fantasy epic is fascinating. A good many Horizon Forbidden West players are still exploring the game’s sandbox setting, meaning that it likely won’t be long before they uncover another interesting secret.
A graduate from York County School of Technology, he's self-published several books on Amazon, and once won 1st place at a regional computer fair for a CGI animated short. He might post it on Youtube someday. He hopes that working for this site will be his first step into the larger universe of online writing, since Megazord technology hasn’t been invented yet and he doesn't seem to have any Force powers.
