Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday, March 6, filed a resolution calling on the Senate to conduct an investigation on the series of political killings happening in the Philippines.
Hontiveros filed Senate Resolution No. 518 following the assassination of incumbent Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, who was gunned down by unidentified men on Saturday, March 4.
Hontiveros further said this is not the first time she called for an investigation into political killings in Negros Oriental. “Historical and worsening violence is corrupting our nation, in once peaceful places like Negros Oriental. Sa mahabang panahon, tumatapang lang ang mga assassins ,” she said.
In the first few months of the new administration alone, the lawmaker noted there have already been seven killings and attempted assassinations across the country which are mostly done in public.
