Hong Kong prepared for more clashes on Wednesday as anti-government protesters planned to paralyze parts of the Asian financial hub for a third day, with some transport, schools and many businesses closing after an escalation of violence.The chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee said on Tuesday he wanted the Senate to pass legislation to support pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, as violence rose in the Chinese-ruled city wracked by months of unrest.
China said stopping violence is the most important thing in Hong Kong now after the United States condemned"unjustified use of deadly force" in the latest violence and urged China to honor its commitments to freedom of expression in the territory.Hong Kong's embattled leader Carrie Lam on Tuesday said protesters who are trying to"paralyze" the city were extremely selfish and hoped all universities and schools would urge students not to participate in violence.
