Exclusive: Fast-casual Northern Mexico restaurant Little Rey coming to River Oaks area
While Little Rey’s menu includes a few Tex-Mex staples, it’s the chicken al carbon that will take center stage. According to Fry, the poultry is bathed in a salt brine for 24 hours before it’s drained and marinated with a mix of oil, orange citrus and achiote seeds, an earthy spice with a hint of heat. “My vision is, ‘How do we make [Little Rey] scalable but maintain quality?’” Fry said. “This isn’t the Chipotle model. The service is fast, but the food takes preparation.” The menu at Little Rey in Atlanta, where another location is under construction in addition to about another half dozen Ford Fry concepts, features dishes such as queso fries, smoked chicken wings, a variety of tacos, spicy chicken tortas and pozole.
Breakfast, which includes tacos and pancakes served with buttermilk syrup, will be available on weekends. Margaritas, beer and agua frescas will be served on tap. Developers approached him about opening a casual restaurant in the space, Fry said. He hopes to bring in nearby office workers and any foot traffic from surrounding businesses and residents.
