Rondae Hollis-Jefferson returned in style and dropped 32 points as TNT began its title-retention bid with a 101-95 escape over NorthPort in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday, Aug. 20.The do-it-all Hollis Jefferson took over in the second half, dropping 19 of his total output including four straight points in the waning seconds to slam the door on the Batang Pier comeback.
Calvin Oftana backstopped Hollis-Jefferson with 15 points including a 2-of-2 clip from the four-point territory – becoming the first player to ever hit multiple four pointers in a game. The Tropang Giga looked comfortable ahead already with Hollis-Jefferson scoring on a dunk to put TNT up ahead, 99-91, with 33 seconds left in the game. The Batang Pier, however, injected life to their cause after Arvin Tolentino drained his own four-point shot to cut the lead down to just four.
TNT, however, held on to its defense on the other end and forced the NorthPort to a 24-second violation dashing all its hopes of pulling off a comeback.Tolentino added 23 points in a losing cause for the Batang Pier.
