We are done!'" said Abby Rice, a psychiatric unit nurse at RGH. "We can just go back to being nurses."
The new, tentative 42-month contract agreement will avoid that, and give nurses what they're looking for when it comes to higher wages and increased staffing levels.Progress made in contract negotiations between RGH, local nurses union as potential five-day strike approaches "Previously, I would take care of 10 patients in a shift, and if you do the math on how many minutes an hour I have for each patient, it is miniscule. It is not what is necessary to provide the bare minimum level of care," Rice explained. "The new contract is amazing, and the ratio will be about one to six for my unit. That will allow me to give much better care to my patients, and that is going to directly impact the community.
"We believe that we are providing great care, and we absolutely agree that we need great nurses at the bedside to do that," said Jennifer Eslinger, COO and president of health care operations for Rochester Regional Health. "It is one thing to not acknowledge that. It is another to not only acknowledge it, but lean into it like we have done with this new contract, and we are very excited about that.
