De La Salle hopes its first complete offseason program since the pandemic started gets the program back on top.
CONCORD – For the storied De La Salle football program, the fall 2021 season was historic as much as it was painful. The Concord school’s 30-year unbeaten streak against regional opponents ended in a shocking September loss at St. Francis. A couple of months later, the team’s run of 13 consecutive appearances in a state championship game came to a halt after a stunning loss at home to Folsom.
Coach Justin Alumbaugh, beginning his 10th season leading the program, described the summer as “excellent.” He added, “We started I think it was Jan. 8. We got to do the things that we feel are really vital to our program and who we are. We worked the kids hard and they responded well. After a legendary De La Salle career two decades ago, Jones-Drew starred at running back for UCLA and with the Jacksonville Jaguars, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2010 and 2011. Ward was a productive ball carrier at Oregon State from 2011-2014 after his De La Salle playing days.
