OLYMPIC and world champion Hidilyn Diaz Naranjo takes a break from her overseas campaign by competing on local soil for the first time perhaps in more than a decade in the National Weightlifting Selection for the Hangzhou 20th Asian Games that starts Wednesday and ends Sunday at the SM Bacolod City.
Diaz Naranjo will be competing at 59 kgs, her new target at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Cambodia Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Erleen Ann Ando giving way and will vie at 64 kgs. Diaz Naranjo and Ando will also compete at 59 and 64 kgs, respectively, in Hangzhou which is not an Olympic qualifier, according to Lee.Forty weightlifters are participating in the tryouts that will select members of the national team to Hangzhou.
Her sights are on the world championships, which will be staged ahead from September 2 to 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, of the September 23 to October 8 Asian Games.
