If the Dodgers make a deal for Juan Soto, it would bolster a lineup that should win World Series championships down the line.
The lesson here shouldn’t be about the risks of placing a massive wager on a single player but of what can happen to teams that don’t take advantage of their opportunities.
The Dodgers won the National League West in eight of the last nine seasons. Last year, when they finished second to the San Francisco Giants, they reached the NL Championship Series. They now have an opportunity to win another championship or two in the next few years, as they have a high-powered offense anchored by two of the most dangerous hitters in the league in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
