Today’s storm is a classic example of bombogenesis, the source of the “bomb cyclone” term that floods social media every couple of weeks without much context behind it. Bombogenesis occurs when a low-pressure system's minimum central pressure drops at least 24 millibars over the course of 24 hours. Trinidad, Colorado, saw its air pressure drop from 1002 mb at 12:00 PM on Tuesday to 974 mb at 12:00 PM on Wednesday.
