Phoenix has tied its all-time record of consecutive 110-degree days, and that record is expected to fall today. More on the enduring heat wave across the southern tier:
Numerous daily record highs will be set from Arizona to Texas.
A heat dome that is temporarily expanding across the southern United States this week will bring sweltering temperatures that could break more daily records in Texas and the Southwest while also pushing heat indices over 100 degrees in many parts of the Southeast.Numerous daily record highs have been set from parts of the West into Texas over the last several days. Not only that, Reno, Nevada , and Grand Junction, Colorado , tied all-time record highs on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
The dome of high pressure that impacted the West over the past few days will broaden out across the nation's southern tier. That means many other parts of the South are seeing increasingly hot temperatures and heat index values. Record highs will be less numerous from Arkansas and Louisiana eastward across the rest of the Southeast, but heat index values will be dangerously high in the afternoon.
