MIDVALE — Two bats found this week in Salt Lake County have tested positive for rabies. The Salt Lake County Health Department is urging anyone who made contact with a bat this week to call the department to be evaluated.
In a statement released Friday, the department recommended that the two people who came into contact with the bat in Midvale receive rabies prevention medicine. No others have been identified as being exposed to bats in Midvale. But bats with rabies can behave unusually, such as coming closer to humans or spending more time on the ground. "They may also be weak, dehydrated or unable to fly, making them more approachable than usual," the department said in their statement.
