in Dallas was infected with monkeypox while at multiple events over the July Fourth weekend. The department did not say whether the person who attended Club Dallas is the same individual.
While data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that men who have sex with other men make up a large proportion of cases, anyone is susceptible to the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox is spread through having contact with another person’s bodily fluids or infected monkeypox sores. It can also spread through contact with a person’s respiratory droplets in close settings, the health department said.
Symptoms of the virus include fever, headache and muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion. People also may have a rash that looks like pimples or blisters,The county has previously reported four cases of the monkeypox virus in local residents. All four of those cases were men who self-identified as having sex with other men or who had a history of international travel.
There were 700 reported cases of monkeypox in the U.S. as of Thursday, including more than 20 in Texas,
