Some people viewing Hawaii's Mauna Loa eruption are not following the rules.

"We've been seeing people being really disrespectful, putting trash out there, throwing marshmallows into the lava," Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth said in the news conference covered by."Not only is that bad for the environment and people are trespassing, but it's disrespectful to Hawaiians and their love for Madame Pele and the culture of Hawaii. It’s really bad. So we ask people to be respectful.
Roth said about 17,000 cars have traveled the 4.5-mile lava viewing route on Old Saddle Road since the eruption started, Big Island NowMauna Loa erupted Nov. 27 for the first time since 1984 and has continued to spew lava, putting on a spectacular show that's easily viewed from Old Saddle Road and Hilo.
As of Thursday, there is one main opening in the volcano releasing lava that experts are calling fissure 3, according to theFissure 3's main lava flow is now cut off from its supply and stalled 1.7 miles away from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, the main thoroughfare connecting east and west Hawaii, the USGS said.
David Phillips, deputy scientist-in-charge of the USGS observatory, said in an update Thursday that while the volcano is still erupting, the threat to the road and infrastructure has been significantly reduce.
