Plans for a potential Happy Death Day & Freaky crossover are clarified by director Christopher Landon, addressing previous comments on the idea.
Director Christopher Landon weighs in on the discussion surrounding a potential Happy Death Day and Freaky crossover, addressing the current likelihood on the project ever going ahead. Landon directed 2017's Happy Death Day, which stars Jessica Rothe as a college student caught in a time loop on her birthday, forced to relive her shocking murder over and over until she unmasks her killer.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with THR focused on his upcoming Netflix film We Have A Ghost, Landon addressed previous comments by Blumhouse founder Jason Blum and himself surrounding a potential Happy Death Day and Freaky crossover. Landon clarified that the decision behind giving the project the green light rested with Blum and no creative work had been started, but was a possible idea that both Blum, the director, and both film's cast were eager to potentially develop.
Look, Jason Blum is the puppet master. He’s pulling all the strings. So if anybody knows, it’s him. I know that Jessica, Kathryn and I would love to get together and make something absolutely ridiculous. So it’s possible, but we really haven’t had an actual creative conversation about doing something like that. I just know that I would do anything to work with both of those people again.
While the further prospect of a Happy Death Day and Freaky crossover would be touched upon by Landon, Rothe, and Blum, no story ideas for the project have even been elaborated on, with Landon explaining his desire for the project was due to his hopes to work on a production with both Rothe and Newton.
Both Happy Death Day and Freaky quickly earned praise and stood out among other contemporary horror films due to how they incorporated unique slasher twists into time-loop and body-swap tales. As such, both films have attracted fanbases eager to see the potential return of Tree and Millie in some form. While Landon's comments state that no creative steps have been taken to bring the project to life, it is clear that the director is still eager to make it a reality eventually.
