Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes made big changes to Michael Myers' story, but they missed the chance to fix one of the franchise's worst mistakes.
The Halloween franchise has been through many ups and downs, and falling into the latter is Rob Zombie’s remake of John Carpenter’s Halloween, which could have fixed one of the biggest mistakes in the franchise, but chose to carry on with it. The success of Carpenter’s Halloween in 1978 made way for a franchise that has covered comic books and novels, but it’s best known for its movies and the different timelines they have created.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Released in 2007, Zombie’s Halloween took the same basic storyline as Carpenter’s original movie, though with some additions that didn’t do much good to Michael Myers. Zombie’s Halloween received mixed reviews, but a sequel was greenlit anyway, which took the same premise as Halloween II but, once more, with many changes and additions that contributed to making it a critical and commercial failure.
How The Siblings Storyline Hurt Rob Zombie’s Halloween Movies Halloween introduced viewers to Michael Myers, who on Halloween night, 1963, at the age of six, killed his older sister, Judith, for no apparent reason. Because of this, Michael was sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, where he became the patient of Dr. Samuel Loomis, and Michael never spoke again.
In Halloween II, Marion Chambers revealed to Loomis that Laurie was Michael’s younger sister, and she was put up for adoption after the death of Michael’s parents. This gave Michael a reason to target Laurie when he returned to Haddonfield, but that actually made Michael Myers a lot less scary and mysterious.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween Movies Failed To Make Michael Myers Scary When Zombie’s Halloween remake was in development, he opened up about his vision for Michael Myers and stated he wanted to reinvent him to make him scary again, and wanted him to be true to what a psychopath really is like.
