H-E-B has opened a new store on the former site of Nutty Brown Café in Southwest Austin, featuring design elements that highlight the location’s past as a country store and later a beloved concert venue.
H-E-B says it designed the store to honor the heritage of the former live music venue and country store that sat in this corner of Southwest Austin for decades.
The bricks on a mural at the store's entrance came from the original pizza oven at the historic Nutty Brown store, built in the 1950s. The mural chronicles the location’s history using vintage photos and objects inspired by the neon cowboy sign and blue"welcome" awning that stood at the Nutty Brown Café.Shoppers entering the store are greeted by a large mural dedicated to Nutty Brown's live music history.
Mijares, who lives in nearby Driftwood, said he welcomes the change. “It’s very convenient and it’s created so many jobs and opportunities … that’s American entrepreneurship at its best,” he said.
