Second baseman Andres Gimenez, shortstop Gabriel Arias and third baseman Tyler Freeman were at their best on Saturday.
“I don’t have the answer for that,” said Gimenez, when asked how he made that play. “It’s all instincts. I just tried to put the ball on second base.
“I tried the same play in Cincinnati, but it didn’t work. I just trust that Arias is going to be there. He’s always in the right position.”George Springer sent a hard grounder down the third baseline with Guerrero headed to second. Tyler Freeman gloved the ball, but his momentum carried him into foul territory. Fryman made a jump throw to second where Gimenez stretched like a first baseman to dig the ball out of the dirt for the second out of inning.
“With Vladdy running, I knew there was a chance to get an out there,” said Freeman. “What popped into my head was get one out there. I got the ball over there to Andres and he did his magic. I was very confident in him catching that ball.”“They’ve been doing that all year,” said Allen. “They’re awesome. They’re no secret to that. They lay it on the line every single day like that.”
Friday night Gimenez hit his 12th home in a 5-3 win over the Jays. Freeman hit his first big league homer on Saturday when he drove a Hyun Jin Ryu curveball into the left field seats.The Blue Jays were able to retrieve the ball for Freeman. He said he was going to give it to his mother.
