ICYMI: The Guardians brought out the bats to beat Baltimore on Wednesday.
BALTIMORE — Josh Naylor hit the first Guardians home run in more than a week, and added a three-run double that sparked his club to a 12-8 comeback win Wednesday against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
Gabriel Arias added a 441-foot shot to the bullpen in center in the fifth that put Cleveland in front by four. It marked the first game with three home runs for the Guards since Sept. 24 last year in Texas. Meanwhile, four Guardians players recorded at least three hits each for the first time since July of last season.
“The first day in here, they kind of carved him up, they threw him fastballs up, and then changeups down and you’d see his helmet flying off,” Francona said. “But when he just stays with that real swing of his, he’s strong enough to hit the ball and do damage.” “It frustrated me a little bit because Josey worked his butt off to get a good pitch to hit and score Kwan, and then I didn’t do enough to score him, so it kind of frustrated me a little bit,” Naylor said. “But the rest of my guys picked me up after that and I think it’s just passing the baton. We ended up picking each other up.”
Xzavion Curry allowed a run in the fifth, but was credited with his second win of the season . Mychal Givens, who allowed three earned runs on two hits and did not retire a batter in the fifth, took the loss for Baltimore . Sam Hentges, Enyel De Los Santos, Trevor Stephan and Emmanuel Clase each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
With his double in the seventh, Ramírez moved into a tie with Ken Keltner for fifth on Cleveland’s all-time extra-base hits list. It’s the 91st time in Ramírez’s career that he has recorded at least two extra-base hits. He has doubled in three of his last four games and hit safely in six straight.
