Lucas Giolito has been claimed by the Guardians on waivers from the Angels.CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians played the role of sellers at the trade deadline, but apparently the club was not finished building its roster for one last push at the postseason. Cleveland was awarded a trio of pitchers Thursday via waiver claims from the Los Angeles Angels, including starter Lucas Giolito and relievers Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore.
The Reds, meanwhile, claimed outfielders Hunter Renfroe from the Angels and Harrison Bader from the Yankees. Angels outfielder Randall Grichuck went unclaimed. The Guardians took two of three games in a critical series against the Twins earlier this week and pulled within five games of the American League Central Division frontrunners. They are expected to get right-hander Cal Quantrill back from a shoulder injury on Friday, and the addition of Giolito could help bolster their rotation which currently features four rookies.
