Waste and pollution watchdog EcoWaste Coalition urged the public to help cut down what it describes as “holitrash” as Christmas celebrations, which are marked with gift-giving and parties, draw near.

In a statement, EcoWaste Coalition’s Zero Waste campaigner Jove Benosa said the true spirit of Christmas should prevail by rediscovering the virtue of simplicity which is symbolized by the birth of Jesus in a manger.

3. Go for eco-friendly products that are minimally packed, durable, and safe, and which can be repaired, reused, recycled or passed on to others. As for Christmas gifts, the EcoWaste Coalition urged the public to choose gifts that come with little or no packaging at all and to give gifts that foster good health and ecological balance such as vegetable seeds, kitchen herbs, flower bulbs, tree saplings, organic personal care and cosmetic products, eco-alternatives to plastics, etc.
