Gahanna Lincoln finally won another regional title thanks to the same weapon it has needed all season: Grit.

“It’s been amazing. We needed our time to shine and right now is our time,” said King, a junior. “We kept losing, losing and losing and then this class of ’23 came together. We are really shining as a whole. We’re letting Ohio know that we’re a top-tier team.Gahanna went 3-7 in 2019, when the current seniors were freshmen. A 4-4 season followed in 2020, then 7-3, and now 13-1 and counting.
The postseason doesn’t work quite like it did the last time the Lions got this far, which they have done only twice. Six years earlier, Gahanna shut out Lakewood St. Edward 28-0 in a Class AAA semifinal before running into powerful Moeller, led by eventual Notre Dame coach Gerry Faust, and losing 43-5.
