Months after joining storied VC firm Benchmark, investor Greg Rosen is departing to join New York-based Bedrock Capital as its third partner.
behind investments like Snap, Twitter and Uber among others, Rosen relocated to San Francisco in August and will remain there to open Bedrock’s first west coast office.
“Greg was our first and only call when we decided to expand our partnership,” Stromberg says. “He is very much a polymath who can deliver insights on consumer businesses, business-to-business marketplaces and crypto [currency] at once.” A computer scientist by training who dropped out of college to first join venture firm Raptor Ventures in 2014, Rosen was an early active investor in the cryptocurrencies sector. He’ll also look to invest in consumer internet, robotics and hardware companies at Bedrock. Unlike at Benchmark, where Rosen’s job was to support the firm’s partners in their investments and work on models and other support projects, Rosen will lead his own deals for his new firm.
Those hires could come in San Francisco, where Rosen will remain, despite returning so quickly to a New York-headquartered firm. Both Lewis and Stromberg spend much of their time on the West Coast, they say, and Bedrock’s strategy will remain largely geography agnostic within North America.
