Mass coral spawning, likened to underwater fireworks or a snowstorm, begins on Australia's Great Barrier Reef
This handout photo taken on November 16, 2019, and released on November 17 by the Sunlover Moore Reef Marine Base shows part of the annual coral spawn at Sunlover Marine Base, Moore Reef on the Great Barrier Reef.
Buffeted by climate change-induced rising sea temperatures and coral bleaching, the world's largest reef system goes into a frenzy once a year with a mass release of coral eggs and sperm that is synchronised to increase the chances of fertilisation. "There were three times the volume of eggs and sperm compared to last year when the soft corals spawned four nights after the full moon and it was deemed to be the best coral spawn in five years," he said. The natural wonder, which has been likened to underwater fireworks or a snowstorm, occurs just once a year in specific conditions: after a full moon when water temperatures hover around 27 to 28 Celsius.
Coral along large swathes of the 2,300-km reef have been killed by rising sea temperatures linked to climate change, leaving behind skeletal remains in a process known as coral bleaching.

The Latin Grammys Red Carpet Was a Great Place for Protest Fashion (And Other Looks)The Latin Grammys have long been a flashpoint for the complicated ways the U.S. relates to Latinxs, and the way our vast and infinitely diverse diaspora relates to itself. The short answer to the main prevailing question—why there gotta be a separate “Latin” Grammys tho?—has been U.S. English-speaking audiences’ disinterest in Spanish language music, and also the separate music industries that have emerged because of that. But as English radio has embraced certain Spanish-language artists in the post-“Despacito” era, even as U.S. leadership has become increasingly racist and xenophobic towards every stripe of Latinxs and Latin Americans, the conversation has become more nuanced within Latinidad (including whether “Latinidad” is in itself a racist concept).

Man Who Cried Himself To Sleep Last Night Has Some Great Ideas For Growing Company's BrandNEW YORK—Marketing strategist Garrett Brooks, who reportedly cried himself to sleep Sunday while thinking about how much of his life he’s wasted and how he continues to contribute nothing of any value to society, has some great ideas for growing his company’s brand across multiple platforms, sources confirmed. “If we can utilize Twitter and Facebook to integrate our brand with other established players, we stand to boost our profile in all the key demographics,” said the 33-year-old Brooks, who last night lay in bed staring at the ceiling, tears dripping down his face as he realized the thing he puts so much effort into is so vacuous and void of meaning that his younger self would be disgusted by his pursuit of an occupation that ultimately doesn’t need to exist. “Fruit Stripe gum and Vans Shoes have already expressed interest, and the overall sense is that they get our unique voice. Now, if we can get the biggest fish on board, our visibility will shoot through the roof. That’s right, I’m talking Burger King. And I have a contact there.” Following the brief staff meeting, Brooks returned to his office, shut the door, and stared at the wall for 45 minutes.
