Governor Ron DeSantis visits Jacksonville to announce funding for a local project that aims to boost local manufacturing and infrastructure in the River City.
Florida’s Job Growth Grant Fund is awarding $5.5 million dollars to create a three-mile railway connecting the main rail line, which is North of I-10, to the 600-acre manufacturing site at the Cecil Commerce Center.
The governor awarded Mayor Lenny Curry with a check for the new railway inside an airplane hanger at Cecil Airport earlier this morning. “This project alone is expected to bring 500 new jobs in manufacturing and logistics to the area, with an economic impact of over 14 million dollars for the City of Jacksonville,” DeSantis says.
DeSantis says the dual-service railway line will make Jacksonville an attractive investment for manufacturing companies looking to transport their goods across the country. “Cecil Commerce Center is conveniently located near I-10, Cecil Airport, Cecil Space Port, and Jax Port - making it a prime location for companies that need to move their products anywhere in the country,” DeSantis says. “And, businesses in need of new talent will also be able to draw off from the Florida State College of Jacksonville Cecil Center, which houses the Colleges’ Aviation and Commercial Vehicle Driving programs, so we believe that this is a great use of the Job Growth Grant Fund.
