AROUND P510 million will be allocated for the building of new classrooms in Central Visayas, as well as for the renovation of buildings that were damaged or destroyed when Typhoon Odette struck in December 2021, an education official said.
“Our only part in DepEd is to monitor closely, so that all these projects will be fast-tracked so we can use them immediately. In fact, our target should have been before the opening of classes,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.Jimenez said there are over 100,000 classrooms in around 3,000 public schools in the region.
“So that we can immediately see how many are lacking, like yesterday there was a budget hearing for DepEd and one of the information that was asked was data of enrollment. And with the number we provided, it did not include those students that are about to be enrolled yet,” he said. He said he received good feedback from school superintendents in the 20 school divisions in the region, adding that “kids are excited and interested in going back to school.”
