Gov. Murphy inaugurated for 2nd term, vows to make N.J. a national model to restore American Dream
When he was sworn in four years ago, Murphy— a fellow Democrat and Massachusetts native — used during his 1961 inauguration. On Tuesday, Murphy placed his hand a bible that his wife’s great-great grandmother gave to her grandmother on her wedding day more than 100 years ago.
He reiterated he will keep pushing to further strengthen gun-control laws and to expand and protect voting rights.on the horizon, he vowed to nominate justices who will keep “fairness and independence” on New Jersey’s highest court. “Our goal for these next four years is to make sure that the American Dream — an American Dream, by the way, with Jersey flavor and Jersey attitude, amen to that — make sure that dream is alive and well,” he added.
On Tuesday, the governor said “our national political discourse is in shambles” but pointed to New Jersey representing “what is right with America.”
