Even then, 30% of tweets containing that phrase were directed at politicians and several tweets directed at officials asked if they could do something besides offer thoughts and prayers. Republicans’ tweets try to change the subject, according to Blankenship. For instance, instead of talking about gun reform, they focus on the confused police response.
