Democrats and Republicans mostly held their ground in the other races. In the three targeted Republican races, conservative candidates had prevailed in their primaries this spring, and they all cruised to victory on Tuesday. Robinson, who opted not to run again, will be replaced by Julie Pickren, a former Alvin ISD board member who attended the Jan. 6, 2021 protests outside the U.S. Capitol. Pickren lost her re-election campaign to the Alvin ISD board over her involvement in those events, which preceded the violent storming of the Capitol. She is a longtime activist who spoke out at the board's meetings this fall against proposed changes to the state's social studies curriculum.
