A group of Republicans in the House asked Trump not to delay a $10 billion cloud computing contract to either Microsoft or Amazon.
President Donald Trump said that he may intervene in the awarding of a lucrative $10 billion contract to provide the military with a cloud computing network.
The letter was signed by Representatives Marc Thornberry of Texas, Elise Stefanik of New York, Rob Whittman of Virginia and Mike Turner of Ohio. Trump said Thursday that he may look into the contract, which would delay the process even further, because he’s heard complaints from Oracle, IBM and Microsoft that the Pentagon is showing favoritism toward Amazon. And earlier this month, Senator Marco Rubioa letter to National Security Advisor John Bolton asking to delay the contract over a “lack of competition.”
The four GOP lawmakers said it is “essential for our national security” to move as quickly as possible with the contract because “moving to the cloud will help DOD operate faster, more efficiently, and compete with adversaries, like China.” Meanwhile, the bidding process for the lucrative contract has been dogged by allegations and lawsuits from competitors that the Pentagon is showing favoritism toward Amazon. They have lodged complaints with the Government Accountability Office, which were dismissed, while Oracle went even further and filed a lawsuit last year.
