GILAS Pilipinas will head to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with 11 players as coach Tim Cone doesn't see it necessary to fill in the spot vacated by injured guard Scottie Thompson.Cone made the announcement shortly after Gilas scored a 74-64 win over the Taiwan Mustangs in their send off friendly game on Monday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.'We are going 11 strong,' declared Cone during the post-game with media men at the Pasig sports venue.
'The 66-year-old Cone, however, admitted that losing the do-it-all Thompson to back injury was huge, considering that the PBA Season 47 Most Valuable Player is well-versed with his system and can do so much inside the basketball court.'However, I do really, really miss Scottie. You all know how much I rely on Scottie. He is such an infectious player,' said Cone, with whom he won seven PBA championships with the former University of Perpetual Help guard.
