Gilas Pilipinas begins its step to redeeming the gold medal when the Filipinos take on Malaysia in the opening day of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games men's basketball pool play on Tuesday at the Morodok Techno National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Game time is 2 p.m.National coach Chot Reyes admitted that competition will be a lot tougher this year and the road to redeeming the gold is an uphill climb, with other regional rivals stockpiling their respective rosters heading to the Cambodia Games.While Filipino basketball fans are expecting no less than a Gilas sweep in its Group A assignments that includes Cambodia, which the Philippines faces on Thursday, followed by Singapore , Reyes doesn't want to get ahead of himself.

The other members of the Philippine version of the 'Redeem Team' include Arvin Tolentino, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Calvin Oftana, Chris Newsome, collegiate stars Jerom Lastimosa of Adamson and La Salle's energetic big man Michael Phillips, as well as incoming UAAP freshman Mason Amos.
