After four straight losses in the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Manila, Gilas rode on Jordan Clarkson's torrid third-quarter shooting to mow down China in its final game in the classification round to finish 24th overall in the final FIBA ranking.The national team's 1-4 win-loss record was enough for the Philippines to secure a spot in the qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics.
'Clarkson capped his World Cup stint with a 34-point explosion, knocking down five three-pointers that allowed Gilas to pull away from China in the final day of the classification round.The win snapped the Philippines' nine-game losing skid in the World Cup since the 2019 edition in Foshan. Senators, who wore t-shirts that bore the words 'West Philippine Sea' and the Philippine flag, celebrated Gilas victory over China.
