Gilas Pilipinas fell short on its comeback bid against a tough South Sudan side to remain winless after an 87-68 setback in the classification round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup on Thursday, August 31, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

NBA veteran Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz finished with 24 points, Dwight Ramos collected 20 points and 12 rebounds, and AJ Edu came off the bench to add 12 points and 14 boards for the Philippine team.

However, their efforts -- together with the rest of the Gilas Pilipinas -- were not enough as the Philippines dropped its fourth straight match, which included a heartbreaking 0-3 record in the group stage. The defeat also ended the national team's chances of earning a spot in next year's Paris Olympics.
