Giants hiring Bills’ Brian Daboll as head coach: Will he team with GM Joe Schoen to resurrect this rudderless franchise?

It is a done deal, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ Advance Media on Friday night. The Giants later made the hire official.

Daboll, 46, has never been a head coach at any level. He has worked in New Jersey before, though, as the Jets’ quarterbacks coach from 2007-08. Flores, a Brooklyn native, would have been the first Black head coach in Giants history. Like Daboll and former Giants coach Joe Judge, he is a Bill Belichick disciple. Daboll was also a finalist for the Dolphins’ job, which was vacated by Flores’ firing earlier this month.

The Giants went 6-10 and 4-13 in two seasons under Judge, who became the third straight Giants coach — following Ben McAdoo and Pat Shurmur — to be fired after just two seasons. Because of that, the Giants will be paying three head coaches in 2022, which will be the final year of Shurmur’s buyout.
