Ghostface is the killer in the Scream franchise.
Ahead of the Scream 6 premiere on March 10, fans of the franchise can receive a personalized call from Ghostface. Although every Scream movie features a different killer or killers, they always dress in the same costume, a black cloak with a Ghostface mask, enacting the same M.O. by calling their victims over the phone to taunt them with horror trivia.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY This week, Paramount Pictures launched a brand new web site to promote the impending release of Scream 6. On the site, fans can enter their name and number and receive a personalized call from Ghostface. In addition to the thrill of hearing Ghostface speak one's own name, the call provides a bit of in-universe fun as it comes from a New York number.Why Ghostface's Phone Calls Are So Important to the Scream Franchise Ghostface's phone calls, one of which opens the entire franchise in the iconic Scream 1996 sequence with Drew Barrymore, are an important part of the fabric of the series.
In-universe, Jackson's Ghostface voice can be created using a voice changing device, allowing all the killers to imitate those sinister tones. This is tremendously important to the series, as it allows the films to have a consistent and iconic villain like Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees while still presenting audiences with a series of new whodunits.
These phone calls also allow the Ghostface killers to elevate their M.O. above the traditional silent slasher villain. Ghostface's terrifying phone calls are all part of the cat and mouse game that amps up the tension and has allowed the series to survive for so long and remain popular. From the looks of things, Scream 6 won't be skimping on the phone calls either, as the killer has been shown threatening surviving character Gale Weathers in one particularly menacing moment.
