The national group One Fair Wage (OFW), has its eyes set on Ohio to get rid of the reduced minimum wage for tipped bartenders and serves.
Currently in Ohio, minimum wage for tipped employees is $5.25/hour with the idea that tips they make carry them past the normal minimum wage of $10.45.
“One Fair Wage policy would require all employers to pay the full minimum wage with fair, non-discriminatory tips on top, lifting millions of tipped and subminimum wage workers nationally out of poverty,” according to OFW’s website., which says OFW’s issue would actually hurt restaurants and servers already battling inflation and recovering from the pandemic.
“This organization is trying to force restaurants, bars and hospitality operators into a no-win situation by eliminating the tipped wage,” ORHA said in a news release. “Operators would have to raise menu prices and/or impose service charges to survive significantly higher labor costs on top of sky-high food costs. Guests don’t like either option and would dine out less often.”from around the state who are against the issue, saying they make way more than the $10.
