It’s been a summer of discontent for New York billionaire and Madison Square Garden CEO Jim Dolan
’s temper regularly get in the way of his business judgment? That’s the question making the rounds on Wall Street these days after Dolan, the billionaire CEO of the Madison Square Garden Company, blew a gasket again on July 12 when he hada reporter for Bloomberg, booted out of a Huntington, Long Island, concert venue where she had gone to watch Dolan’s country-rock-blues band, JD & the Straight Shot.
In fairness, by then Dolan knew that Dean’s story about Dolan and the Knicks would be a tough one. And it was. The headline of the piece asked if Dolan was “the worst owner in professional sports,” and the subsequent story left little doubt for readers as to what Dean thinks the answer is.
Dolan has plenty of reasons to be angry at Ballmer and Butts. Since 2012, MSG and Dolan have spent $140 million buying and refurbishing the Forum into a premier concert venue in Southern California. And, parking aside—which remains a big problem—he has succeeded. On July 27, pop sensationplayed the Forum. Dolan thought MSG would have an exclusive in Inglewood for concerts and the like.
